EFFORT data has been presented at the first international conference organized by the AACTING consortium, the "Network on quantification of veterinary Antimicrobial usage at herd level and Analysis, CommunicaTion and benchmarkING to improve responsible usage" .
The conference entitled Quantification, Benchmarking and Stewardship of Veterinary Antimicrobial Usage took place on 27 – 28 February 2018 in Ghent.
This conference aimed at uniting and inspiring people involved in these topics of emerging interest as the use of antibiotics is the main driver for the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance, increasingly recognized as a major problem in humans and animals. The organisation team expected over 130 participants from more than 20 countries and is foreseeing 12 oral presentations and over 25 posters.

The main aim of this network is to develop guidelines describing best practices on setting up systems for collection of AMU data at farm level that are applicable to guide antibiotic stewardship. A review of available systems for the collecting and reporting of AMU data in the participating countries will be established based on a strengths/weaknesses analysis. Furthermore, the guidelines and information on currently available systems will be made publicly available through their website. A final aim of AACTING is to organise an International Conference on these topics, to disseminate project outcomes and discuss further developments and challenges.
