Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) is an integrated body for controls of safety and quality of food and feed in Republic of Bulgaria.  Being established in the beginning of 2011, BFSA follows the best European practices for implementation of highest standards of controls in the areas of safety and quality of food, food- and feed additives and drinks, veterinary medicine and animal welfare, plant protection and fertilizers, phytosanitary controls, feed, border inspections and others.  We all, as BFSA experts, are performing strict controls throughout the whole food chain, i.e. from the field, farm and/or stable up to the table on daily basis.

Personnel Involved

Associate Prof. Dr Hristo Daskalov is head of NRL “Salmonella, Campylobacter and Antimicrobial Resistance” and since 2008 he has started reference activities in NDRVI. For the last four years he is working on microbial resistance of Salmonella spp., Campylobacter and E.coli. He had a long experience with some other microorganisms as Aeromonas hydrophila, L.monocytogenes and F.psychrophilum. He is giving lectures in both faculties of veterinary medicine in R.Bulgaria and main subject of these presentations is food microbiology (especially Foodborne pathogens). He and his team prepared first National program for antimicrobial resistance in Bulgaria in 2012.
